JD Guitars Shrek KS-2 2010 Natural Weird Guitar
Ok, here’s the JD Guitars Shrek KS-2 2010 Natural that I saw on reverb.com’s instagram feed.
If you check JD’s (Jeff D.) reverb.com shop you’ll notice that most of his guitars are of the unconventional sort.
There are a couple reminiscent of familiar designs. The designs are very unique for the most part.
Here’s how JD describes his creations:
“Unique and sometimes odd one-off creations, hand made by Jeff D. Categorically, they might be considered “art guitars”. I started making traditional electrics in the 90’s and quickly got hooked . Most designs come solely from my imagination and often involve odd scale lengths and non traditional cosmetic features. All builds are completely hand made in my workshop.”
He is based in Medway, MA
A Closer Look at the JD Shrek
First let’s take a look at the body.
The body woods are Cherry, Purpleheart, Walnut and Padeuk. It is a 9 piece body. Just think how people complain about 3 piece bodies from Fender or Squier!
Next let’s take a look at the neck. The neck is Purpleheart. The fretboard mimics the body. Also the headstock matches the body.
Moving on to electronics.
First we have to mention the kill switches. Yes, that’s plural. One cuts the signal and the other allows the signal to pass which allows pulsing of the rhythm. Above the kill switches is a mini switch. The switch selects which kill switch is active.
So that sounds like a lot of fun!
In addition to the mini switch and kill switches there is a standard volume and tone.
Unfortunately he doesn’t state what pickup is in the guitar. But it appears to be a P90 type pickup.
Lastly let’s look at the inlays. The inlays are gold stone. However, they are not real gold, I would guess. Since the guitar is reasonably priced at $575 plus shipping that is unlikely.
While this guitar shape isn’t my cup of tea some of his other instruments pique my interest.
